A short drive South of the Jamestown Settlement along the Colonial Parkway lies Historic Jamestowne, the original site of Jamestown, where English settlers landed in 1607. Jamestown functioned as the capital of Virginia from 1607-99. Historic Jamestowne includes archeological interpretive areas (including the James Fort excavation), guided tours, the year-round Historic Jamestowne Visitor Center with multimedia presentations and exhibits, boat ride, and hiking and biking paths. Don't miss a chance to view unearthed artifacts in the Archaearium, view costumed glassblowers at the Glasshouse and take the scenic Island Drive.
Historic Jamestowne is operated jointly by the National Park Service and the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. Open daily (except Christmas and New Year's days), Historic Jamestowne hosts several annual events such as Jamestown Day in May and Bacon's Rebellion Weekend in September.
