Fort Monroe Casement Museum
Built between 1819 and 1834, Fort Monroe is the largest stone fort built in the United States. From 1831 to 1834, Robert E. Lee was stationed at Fort Monroe, which remained in the hands of Union forces throughout the Civil War. Fort Monroe currently serves as the home of the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command. Tour the Casement Museum, which offers artifacts, photos and exhibits that detail the facinating history of Fort Monroe. Museum hours are 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily (except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). Admission is free.
